Professor Charisa Kiyô Smith, Co-Director of the Family Law Practice Clinic, published an article in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Law and Social Change, detailing how legal approaches to sexual and gender-based harms between minors are both ineffective and under-examined.

 

 

Professor Lynn Lu, Co-Director of the Equal Justice Works Clinic, presents “From Stigma to Dignity? Transforming Workfare with Universal Basic Income and a Federal Job Guarantee” examining proposals for a universal basic income (UBI) and a federal job guarantee (JG) to reduce poverty, income inequality, and the widening racial wealth gap.

 

Professor Alan White presents their article “The Contract State, Program Failure, and Congressional Intent: The Case of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program,” published in the U.C. Irvine Law Review, exploring the Public Service Loan Forgiveness failure in detail and as an exemplar of the dysfunction of the contract state.

 

Professor Rebecca Bratspies, Director of CUNY’s Center for Urban Environmental Reform, presents their work “Struggling to Breathe: Asthma, Pollution, and the Fight for Environmental Justice.” They discuss how asthma rates that Black communities in the U.S. experience are intimately connected with America’s racialized housing geography, and how reframing regulatory policy towards realizing the right to breathe clean air leads to better environmental policy choices and community health.
